Last August, the first cohort of Northern Rise Up! youth came together in Terrace for their Regional Gathering. Our guest speaker, Margo Peill, started the day with some critical perspectives on how and why we make Indigenous land acknowledgements, and some lessons she’s learned over the years about meaningful community engagement.
After a quick tour of fields and greenhouses at Farmer Cam’s Foods (@farmercamsfoods), the group travelled to Thimbleberry Farm (@thimbleberryfarmbc) for a relaxed no-till farm tour, a seed cleaning demonstration by Farm Folk City Folk (@farmfolkcityfolk), and a showcase of plant-based foods by a local chef. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to meet each other in person, talk about the change we want to see in our food systems, and share some delicious snacks while visiting local farms in peak season!
We have begun planning our Northern Regional Gathering for our Cohort 2 youth participants! Stay tuned for more details to come!
